One of the most exciting things you can do is to learn a new language. There is that exhilarating thrill in being able to communicate in a different tongue than the one you have known and it’s even more exciting when you do this as an adult.
Unlike when you were a child, picking up another language these days requires a huge investment of time (which we usually don’t have), and taking classes can be costly. But it doesn’t have to be.
No matter what your reason for wanting to learn a new language is, we have gathered three top apps to help you in your journey towards learning a new language and they come at a low cost.
With a full program featuring more than 30 languages, including Swahili, the Duolingo app has been a favorite amongst language learners for years. The game-like interface makes it easy and fun, so users can learn for hours without feeling like it.
Rosetta Stone has been in the language learning game for 26 years and has taught millions how to speak at least one of the more than 30 languages they cover. Now the computer-based program is at your fingertips with an app designed to help you learn fast and on the go. Though it’s not totally free (there are in-app purchases), it is still the best and most immersive way to learn a new language.
What makes Memrise different from other language apps is that it uses games and lessons to help you use video and audio clips to build memories that are attached to the new language. It costs as little as $5 a month for one year, but for the chance to learn up to two million words and phrases, it is certainly worth it.
