A lot has gone on since Liam Neeson made a Confession that he walked around with a weapon hoping to kill a random black man in revenge for a friend’s rape.
While many people are appalled at this revelation and have called for the boycott of his film Cold Pursuit, some have even demanded that he is scrapped from Men in Black in which he features.
However, ‘Cold Pursuit’ was successful at the box office in its opening weekend making $10 million despite the backlash.
Some stars came to his defence stating that Neeson is not a racist that it was an incident that happened decades ago in which he stated that he was ashamed of.
Michelle Rodriguez vouched for the star in an interview that his role in the film Widows as Viola Davis’s husband and their scenes, that he is definitely not a racist. Apparently they shared very steamy kissing scenes that left no doubt that there is no hate there.
Some are expecting the Taken star to apologise for what is perceived as a ‘racist comment’ but isn’t the admission enough?
Katy Perry on the other hand is not in good luck as her shoe designs have been pulled for looking like black face.
Black face is a form of make-up worn by non- black people as a caricature of black people.
Any reference to black people is very sensitive no matter how harmless. This stems from the degradation, humiliation and brutality suffered by ancestors many centuries ago during the slave trade. This treatment unfortunately is still being meted out today, hence psychologically leaving a ‘victim mentally’ on the black race. Every nuance is derogatory, every speech is perceived as spewing hate.
To move past this, would be very difficult because the experiences is etched in the black history not soon to be forgotten.
