One of the major critiques of Joe Biden is the amount of years he has spent as a politician. With it being brought up all the time, it has become more of a con than a pro. You see, Biden has been a politician for, at least, 45 years. And this is excluding the “trial and error” years. He had tried to run for presidency in 1988, but a series of negative press as a result of plagiarism, lies about the details of his university education, and what he stands for as a person ended that dream.
Before the 2008 elections, he was called upon by Barack Obama to serve as the Vice President. After an initial hesitation, hesitation due to the death of his son, Biden agreed to serve alongside Obama.
Fast forward to 2020, four years after his tenure as vice president and Biden decided to run against the Republican president, Donald J. Trump. His campaign started off shaky but began to gain momentum over time. Biden’s pick of Kamala Harris was a strategic move to win favor with the women, blacks, and progressive liberals.
By the time we wake up tomorrow, being the fourth of November in Nigeria, but still the night of the third of November in the United States, a winner might have been announced.
So, if Joe Biden wins, what would change.
Firstly, the immigration laws and restrictions. Donald J. Trump had very strong immigration policies. Within his first hundred days in office, he gave an executive order to begin building the fence on the Mexican border. Years down the line, he banned some Islamic countries and placed heavy restrictions on countries like Nigeria. Trump separates immigrant parents and their children, they’re tried and sent back to their countries. Biden on the other hand, wants lesser immigration restrictions. He would, most likely, be overturning most, if not all, of Trump’s policies on immigration.
Secondly, he would raise taxes. Biden’s policies on tax differs from Trump’s. Trump cut taxes because the more money the citizens have, the better the society would be. And Biden believe that raised taxes would be a better way of raising more money for the society as a whole. Biden plans on raising the taxes of anyone earning above four hundred thousand dollars annually. The taxes could rise as high as 62% in places like New York and California.
Lastly, the fight for climate change. Trump, over the years, has ignored all scientific evidences pointing to a depleting world due to the way humans live. He pulled the United States away from any organisations fighting against climate change. Biden, on the other hand, accommodates the idea of working and putting things in place to fight against climate change.
