A 40-year-old Nigerian man, Onyebuchi Johnbosco Ezedinugwu, was arrested by the Thailand immigration police for living in the country for seven years with a 60-day tourist visa.
Onyebuchi was arrested in Bangkok on Tuesday, January 19.
The country blames illegal immigration as a factor for the second wave of coronavirus after an outbreak at Samut Sakhon seafood market affecting a large migrant population.
Another Nigerian man in Germany took to social media to urge people to come to his rescue in his quest to return home. The man, Elijah Amusan, travelled from Nigeria to Italy in 2016 in hopes to get documents but all to no avail.
In a video shared on Facebook, Amusan said he couldn’t work in Italy because he wasn’t able to get documents.
Amusan, who is currently in Frankfurt, Germany, begged Nigerians and the European Union to get him back home so he can see his family again.
According to him, he has signed documents in Germany to be repatriated to Nigeria but the government has refused to send him home despite repatriating others like him.
