Come March, DC comic (Detective Comic) is introducing a new comic tagged Second Coming about Jesus Christ being ”locked up” will be out.
The comic explains that God is not happy with Jesus efforts when he comes the first time so he is ”locked up” and has to ”learn what it takes to be the true messiah of mankind by becoming roommates with the world’s favorite savior: the all-powerful superhero Sun-Man, the Last Son of
The comic, Christians around the world, have said “blasphemous [rather] than biblical” but Mark Russell, its writer, has said that the essence of the comic is to portray how Christians have misunderstood the teachings of Jesus.
“The Christian religion doesn’t really base itself on what He taught, particularly in the modern Evangelical megachurches. They have Him more as a mascot on t-shirts to prove they’re on the winning team. [Second Coming] is about Jesus coming down and being appalled by what He sees has been done in His name by Christianity in the last 2,000 years.”
“The concept is that God was so upset with Jesus’ performance the first time He came to Earth since He was arrested so soon and crucified shortly after, that He has kept Him locked-up since then. God then sees this superhero on Earth a few thousand years later and says, ‘That’s what I wanted for You!’”
However, an organisation bearing the name, Caroline Craddock and the entire CitizenGO team, have requested that it is pulled out from the DC publishing schedule.
“Can you imagine the media and political uproar if DC Comics was altering and poking fun at the story of Muhammad… or Buddha?
“This blasphemous content should not be tolerated. Jesus Christ is the Son of God. His story should not be ridiculed for the sake of selling comic books,”
At the time of writing, the petition has attracted over 110,000 signatures in less than one week.
Russell hopes that the comic will continue if its intended six issues receive positive reactions.
