You heard right, “Coming to America 2” is in the works and we are here for it.
This was first revealed by Deadline Friday and has now been confirmed.
This sequel has been a long time coming. It should be recalled that after the film was released in 1988, a spin-off TV show was billed to kick off in 1989 but that never happened.
In reaction to this, an excited Murphy wrote in a statement:
After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward. We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.
Other original cast expected to make a return are Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, James Earl Jones and John Amos.
Craig Brewer, director of Empire is joining the film as its director. He made this announcement known on his Instagram:
This will not be the first time that the two will be working together. Brewer just finished directing Murphy in Dolemite Is My Name.
According to Deadline, Prince Akeem will head back to America to find the long-lost heir to the kingdom of Zamunda.
However, some fans have begun to exercise fears that it might just ruin the classic and would rather stick with the original.
