Social media has become the new drug. Addiction to social media has ravaged the world. It has gone unnoticed, because it affects us in ways that isn’t so noticeable. So you want signs that it’s time to quit social media?
The fun is gone: Social media sites are meant to be used as a way to blow off steam. They’re fun and enjoyable way to connect with family and friends. If you find that it’s no longer a source of joy and connection in your life, it may be a sign to take a break.
It’s affecting your self-esteem: If you feel yourself comparing yourself with other people, feeling reduced, and incapable, then you need to get off social media and reconnect with yourself and your values.
Zombie Scrolling: This is when you find yourself mindlessly scrolling through social media for hours. You keep hitting refresh. You’re not particularly looking for anything—even entertainment—but you just to keep scrolling.
You’re addicted: Social media has gone from a want to a need; a thing to blow off steam to a “must-do” part of your day. You procrastinate or blow off important work just to stay on social media.
It can be hard to get off social media, but when you want to, how do you get your life back?
Turn off all notifications: It’s easier to get off something when it doesn’t keep reminding of its existence every other hour. Mute or turn off all notifications. As time progresses, your brain would start seeing it as less important.
Make fun plans: We’re more likely to go on social media when we are bored. Making plans with friends; hiking, book clubs, etc., would make us feel engaged.
Allocate a social media: In our lives, we have a time for everything, but when it comes to social media, we let it run freely. Allot a time within the day when you have to go on, and once that time is up, log off.
