Putting on your best smile is something not everyone can do. This especially makes you guilty when you consider how many times you floss. While you go on about that, did you know that there is such a thing as going to the extremes and placing a lot of pressure on your teeth?

Here are some ways your dentist thinks you might be hurting your teeth.

DIY Methods

We know you have heard it. With its gaining popularity and blogs promising that their recommendations are the best, a Beverly Hills dentist Dr Matt Nejad reveals that DIY whitening products do nothing to the teeth or in his words “generally useless.”  Because the teeth are naturally slightly yellow, bleaching it to white can cause serious damage leading to gum irritation and sensitive teeth. But if must do this, consult your dentist instead.

Water and Lime

Ooh, we’ve heard of detox (which some health practitioners believe is a myth by the way. We’ve heard that to detox your water for healthier living, a slice or two in your water will do the magic. This method, dentists say is not healthy for the oral health. This is because it contains high concentrates of acids which can cause tooth decay and bad breathe.

Brushing with a hard bristle toothbrush

Smokers toothbrush and other hard bristle brushes are a no-no for your enamel it turns out. Just stick to soft brushes and save yourself in the long run.
