We all live in a world where text messages come in handy for us but there are things you should never do over text messages. It’s important to know when to keep your thumbs from doing the talking and here are some below:
Break up with someone
Ending your romance via a text message is not only tack but very hurtful and disrespectful. You should have the courtesy to meet in person and in a case where you cannot, at the least, have a phone call conversation.
Deliver bad news
Bad news is not something that should be delivered via text message just because it is tough to relay. If you have to tell someone something that could upset them, then you have to prepare them before delivering such news. When you deliver bad news via text message, the other person can’t see your non-verbal signals, and they could perceive your tone as different from the way you’re feeling. Again, a face-to-face meeting is best or a telephone conversation.
Deliver sensitive or private information
You may trust the person you are sending the text message to but don’t forget that hackers don’t have the same integrity. Avoid sending anything that’s personal, sensitive, or financial via text (both your own info and that of the person you are texting). If you come up with at least one negative consequence of sending such a text, then you should rethink it.
Spread gossip
You should be cautious about the things you send to other people, don’t forget that it can always be screenshotted and shared with other people in your circle, and then you never know who might see them. Whatever you send, you should be able to stand by it.
