We hear of sex appeal. In a 2007 poll, James Bond was the ultimate sex appeal man. Mind you that the character James Bond is fictional. Year after year, magazines make lists of the sexiest people in the world. Rihanna, Beyonce, Idris Elba, et al. So what exactly is sex appeal?
Sex appeal is the ability for someone to attract the sexual interests of others. This attraction stems from a quality which could be physical, mental or otherwise. The misconception about sex appeal is that it borders on an hour-glass figure or a six pack. It does, but it goes beyond that. While aesthetics matter, other things might influence someone’s sex appeal. For example, someone in a position of power might seem sexually appealing regardless of their physical aesthetics.
The primary determinant in sex appeal is, of course, DNA. A 6”2 man with broad shoulders and a full beard might be considered more sexually appealing than someone otherwise. But we, as individuals, have roles to play in our sex appeal. Beyond the visuals, there is the auditory and olfactory.
So, How Does One Get Sex Appeal?
The sense of smell is a powerful sensory stimulant. Regardless of your look, a sense of good sense of smell is a must. Shower at least twice daily. Use deodorants and perfumes. Change your underwear. Take care of your nails and hair. The little things go a long way.
One of the many subtle signs of sex appeal, which goes far beyond physical attributes, is touch. From a gentle hand graze to the strong sweep of an arm around a waist. Of course, with consent.
When we speak about sex appeal, it’s often the physical attributes of a man that might come to mind first, but so much more can come from eye-contact. Don’t be in the habit of looking down or away. A single look or maintaining strong eye contact can make up for all manner of physical reservations.
Nothing beats confidence. Confidence in yourself can increase your sex appeal beyond measure. If you’ve got a great body but without confidence, then we’re back to square one. But a great body isn’t enough to exude sex appeal. It’s confidence. One stand-out characteristic of some of the most sexually appealing people in the world is that they are completely and honestly comfortable in their own skin. In a world of body shaming, Lizzo and Sam Smith prove that self-love and assurance is truly all one needs.
