There should really be no debate about a husband assisting his wife, but sadly, there is. Some husbands do not lift a finger to help their wife even when she is heavily pregnant. Surprisingly, some men feel it is unmanly to do some things to assist their wife.

We have moved past when a woman is expected to worship the ground her husband walks on, cook, clean, sweep, wash and still have sex with her husband irrespective of whether she is pregnant or not. Nowadays, there are a lot of women who are equally as responsible as their husband or even more and still go through a lot while pregnant without their husband assisting them. That is not how it is supposed to be. The role of the husband includes helping their wife and providing for the family. In fact, it is reasonable to think that if a man isn’t ready to be responsible, loving and caring to his wife, he shouldn’t get married.

Pregnancy is not a joke, especially if the woman has a full-time, comes back home from her job and still try to get the chores done in the house. It is important that the husband steps up and take on more responsibilities during this time. Here are tips on how to support your pregnant wife.

Accompany Her To The Doctor’s Appointment

There is no better feeling than a husband being by the side of his wife when she has an appointment with the doctor. It makes her feel happy, loved and not alone. It also makes her very calm and shows that you are going to be there all through.

Accompany Her To Her Birthing Classes

Birthing classes are not very common in Nigeria, but if your wife decides to go for one, you should try to accompany her. If it is her first pregnancy, she is going to feel tense, scared and alone. So, she needs you there to assure her that everything is going to be okay. She also needs to attend these classes to know that she is not alone in this.

Relieve Her Stress

You can do this by cooking for her, cleaning the apartment, helping her with the laundry, school run, massaging her legs and every other stressful thing that she does. She will have cravings, help her get what she needs. You can also draw a romantic bath for her. The aim of this is to let her know that you are not going to leave her all by herself.

Have Sex With Her

According to WebMD, Pregnant women and their partners often wonder if it’s safe to have sex during pregnancy. Will it result in miscarriage? Will it harm the unborn baby? Are there sex positions to avoid?

Sex during pregnancy is a good thing and it’s harmless. Pregnant women are often horny. So, make sure you have sex with your wife, especially during pregnancy, she needs it.

Read Pregnancy Books With Her

Your pregnant wife might feel lost, especially if it’s her first time, but if you read her pregnancy books, you will have one or more meaningful contribution to give her while she is confused and lost, that way you get to understand what and how she feels from time to time.
