How To Exercise When You Hate—Or Don’t Have Time—To

Bad news, exercise is one of the essentials ways, coupled with healthy diet and adequate sleep and hydration, to keep a healthy body in and out. Exercising is not just something you do to lose weight, it’s something to help your system function better—from regulating your metabolism to positively affecting your mental health to making your body organs better.

The good news is, going to the gym or having a workout time is not the only way to exercise. There are tiny things you could do throughout the day to get your daily dose of exercise.

Take the stairs: For most of us, anything above two flights of stairs would make us push the elevator button. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator is one sure way to exercise. It’ll positively impact your legs, abs, motor control, and heart rate.

Take up gardening: Gardening can be fun and therapeutic. Take it up as a hobby. You will not only burn calories but also get the joy of tending nature. It is a great way to work out your abs, back and gluteal muscle.

Cycle to workplace: Cycling is one of the best ways to exercise. Get a bicycle and, instead of using a car, cycle to work. It can be fun and you would be getting in your exercise.

Pace when you talk: Some of us are in the habit of walking around when we are on the phone, well, that is a good form of exercise. Make it a habit to walk around when you’re on the phone.

Play with your kids: Playing with kids will not only create a better bonding but also work out your arms, back and legs when you are running after them, picking them up or squatting.

Dance it out: If you love moving to a beat, dance those calories out at parties, clubs or even in your living room. Dancing can use more muscles than any other form of exercise when done vigorously.

Wash your car: Take the love for your vehicle a level up and wash it yourself. Mix this with some sets of calf raises or squats while you are washing the roof or tires. Your abs and legs will thank you.

Clean your house: Cleaning your home yourself can be the most satisfying thing you can do. Between the dance breaks, bending, walking, carrying, and scrubbing, you’d have gotten your dose of exercise.

Use public transport: If possible, use public transport instead of your personal vehicle. Hopping on and off city buses or moving up and down metro stations is a great alternative to your gym.

Go outdoors: Go hiking, walking, or strolling with a friend(s). This is a way to bond with your friends and also get in the exercise.
