For some of us, we may not know how much role sleep plays in the body. One needs the right of sleep to have a functioning system. Lack of sleep will kill you before dehydration and starvation ever will. A child needs about 10 hours of sleep daily and an adult need about 8 hours.

On that note, here are some important facts about sleep that you need to know:

Better Brain Function: Our brain needs rest. We retain information and perform better on memory tasks after sleeping. Neuroplasticity; the ability to learn more and expand of our brain would only be viable when we have had a good night’s rest.

Better Body Function: If you are working out, you are advised to sleep. If you are a creative person, you are advised to sleep. If you are an athlete, you are advised to sleep. This is because sleep is very important to heal. Our muscles and mind heal.

Anti-Aging: Nothing ages one faster than from lack of sleep. The bags under one’s eyes would become heavier. The eyes would always have a reddish color. Overtime, you’ll see your skin getting more wrinkled. And no cream or spa treatment can save you. The best beauty regime is a goodnight’s sleep. It’s not called a “beauty sleep” for nothing.

Extreme Weight Gain: Failing to get enough sleep can interfere with eating habits and insulin production, making it a contributing factor in obesity and high blood glucose. Failing to get enough sleep has been scientifically proven to make one hungrier, this means eating beyond what one needs.

Declined Productivity: Of course lack of sleep makes you weaker, and a weak person will always tend to do less. And sometimes, due to lack of sleep, our brain focuses less and find it harder to

Lower IQ: Due to lack of sleep, our brain focuses less and find it harder to understand complex equations or logic. Overtime, this would affect the way we reason. And will contribute to diseases like amnesia and dementia when we get older.
