Oh bummer! A look in the mirror and you have a pimple, your worst nightmare has come to life and its staring you in the face (all pun intended). Now you can no longer say ‘I woke up like this’ because that face isn’t flawless anymore.
Pimples are commonly found on your face, neck, chest, back, and shoulders and are caused by more oil glands on the skin of these areas. The function of oil glands is to excrete oily substance (sebum) to lubricate your skin to make it glow. When your body produces an excess amount of sebum and dead skin cells due to hormonal changes, the two can block your hair follicles and form a soft plug, which is a favorable environment for bacteria to thrive. When the clogged hair follicles get infected and result in inflammation, the follicle wall will bulge and form a pimple.
When you spot a pimple on your skin, your first thought is to pop it but hold on with that thought because it can permanently damage your skin! When you pop a pimple, what you are doing is forcing the excess oil and dead skin cells deeper into the follicle. This pressure makes the follicle wall rupture and spill the infected materials into the innermost part of your skin. This skin damage will lead to the loss of tissue and finally cause acne scars.
Your next thought is; how then can you get rid of that annoying pimple? In this article, we have gathered five home remedies you can use to get rid of acne/pimple overnight. Continue to scroll down to read.
Known to be a remedy to many ailments that plague humans, Aloe Vera is anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and antiseptic that helps to prevent infection. If you are not allergic to Aloe Vera, then you should apply a liberal amount of aloe vera to the offending spot and watch as it yields pleasant results.
Like Aloe Vera, honey also has anti-bacterial qualities and doctors use it to prevent or treat infections. Honey is also good for fading acne scars. It has also been established that applying honey directly to an existing acne breakout reduces the existing inflammation and a regular application to acne helps to prevent a breakout of new acne.
For a facial treatment, you can also make a sticky paste of oatmeal, honey, and water and apply on the face, leaving for 15 minutes. It absorbs excess oil from the skin pores and removes dead skin cells from the face leaving a freshly exfoliated skin.
The antiseptic and antifungal properties of baking soda make it a good and inexpensive treatment for pimples. Mix baking soda with water or honey into a paste and apply to the acne breakout. Leave the paste on for 5 minutes then massage the paste in a gentle, circular motion. This should be done in the morning and before going to bed.
Toothpaste contains an ingredient called “triclosan” which is antibacterial and will eliminate acne bacteria and sanitize the infected skin area. The toothpaste is applied topically to the affected spot and left for about 30 minutes then rinsed clean with soap and water.
Garlic is an ancient natural anti-inflammatory and antibiotic remedy and comes in handy in reducing the swelling and redness that comes with acne. To treat acne, it should be diluted with water and the garlic solution used as a daily facial wash. This helps to clean the pores and kills the acne bacteria before inflammation starts.
