The first Monday of May is usually a time when Hollywood and fashion intermingle. Celebrities try their best to channel the theme of the MET Gala event. Last year’s MET Gala which was tagged “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” had celebrities like Rihanna nailing the catholic regalia down to a T. While Rihanna’s outfit may look odd in the regular fashion sense, she is actually one of the best dressed of 2018 MET Gala because she slew the theme. She looked resplendent in her full-on gorgeous pop outfit.
Rihanna is not the only celebrity that takes these fashion events seriously though. Many celebrities who attended this year’s MET Gala, themed “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” were able to reveal the campy genius in them. Camp, in this sense, referring to an exaggerated, wonderfully eccentric and theatrical costume.
Here are celebrities who perfectly interpreted the MET Gala 2019 theme and still managed to look sane and stunning:
Lady Gaga
If not Lady Gaga, who else? Remember the raw beef dress she wore to 2010 MTV Video Music Awards? That was a campy outfit and she slew in it. MET Gala was undoubtedly intentional about making her a co-host of this year’s event. The ‘Shallow’ musician understands the meaning of eccentric and over-the-top fashion. See how she steals the spotlight with her dramatic pink and black multiple outfits.
Lupita Nyongo
Lupita Nyongo is a sight to behold. The neon rainbow top, pink star maxi skirt and crown of gilded picks she is garbed in gives her a queenly-in-an-eccentric way appearance.
Celine Dion
The legendary blues musician stepped out in all her majesty, looking like she’s not a day older than 30-something in her glimmering, shimmery gown and crown of gold feathers.
Ciara
While Ciara’s dress is not that exaggerated as it looks like something you can rock to a dinner party with a little modification of the short train attached to the dress, her hair totally is.
Cardi B
Cardi B, if not for any other thing, deserves an A for effort. A ball gown with a train that’s up to ten feet long is definitely not your everyday wear. It’s got people making funny comments like “can I take a nap under Cardi B’s dress,” and “Cardi’s gown needed an entourage.” And Cardi didn’t stop there, she topped the red gown with Thom Browne headgear that looks like an hijab.
Tiffany Haddish
Although it seems like Tiffany didn’t stress herself about getting a sensational camp dress for the event, the zebra print tuxedo suit she showed up in does scream camp. It is a suit but you can’t wear it to business events because its design is over-the-top—and Tiffany rocked it well with a feathered fedora hat.
