Celebrities, being public figures, are easy targets. News from paparazzi taking pictures of celebs in compromising positions to leaked sex-tapes. In other cases, they received death threats and stalking fans. Here are celebrities that have been blackmailed one time or the other.
Cameron Diaz: At 19, just before the fame and fortune, Diaz, an aspiring model took topless photos but never authorized their publication. The photographer attempted to sell them back to her for $3.5 million and threatened to release them if she didn’t comply. But it failed. John Rutter, the photographer, was sentenced to six years in prison for forgery, attempted grand theft, and perjury. He was also ordered to pay compensation to the actress.
Jennifer Lopez: Jenny from the Block’s case reached home. Ojani Noa, the singer’s husband from 1997 to 1998, threatened to release a tape with about 11 hours of intimate footage of the couple. The singer eventually sued her ex and the tape was never released. At the time in 2009, Lopez filed a lawsuit that prohibited Ojani from licensing, disseminating and distribute any details of her private life.
Britney Spears: Spears has had a fair share of blackmails and stalking fans. The singer’s ex-boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib, demanded money from her, threatening to release an alleged sex tape.
Ricky Martin: Rumors surfaced that Martin had revealed his sexuality because he was receiving death threats from paparazzi who had intimate photos of the singer. However, the Puerto Rican dismissed it as speculation. As a matter of fact, the singer got married last year to artist, Jwan Yosef.
Shakira: The singer was the victim of blackmail by former employees who threatened to release private information about her life unless she paid them a large sum of money. According to rumors, one of Shakira’s former assistants reportedly recorded the Colombian star in intimate moments with her now-husband, Barcelona soccer player Gerard Piqué.
Selena Gomez: At 19, Gomez received death threats. The culprit, Thomas Brodnicki, 46, was accused of stalking the singer, having even been seen in the same place as her. The man claimed that God had ordered him to kill the singer. The case came to the police and Gomez obtained a restraining order against him.
