It’s normal; we are all guilty of checking out movie stars on social media and snooping around on Google for stuff like their net worth or who they are dating. And it is no different for the almighty Game of Thrones, a TV series whose costumes, setting and character personalities intrigued us. Have you wondered or bothered checking what your favorite characters looked like outside Westeros? The answer is probably yes.
Is Maisie Williams as feisty and tomboyish as her Arya Character? How about the gentle nature and innocent appearance of Sansa Stark, is that a given for Sophie Turner, the owner of that role? What does Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) look like without her long white tresses? The mysterious woman in red—check; the monstrous Cersei and her condescending smile—check. Quickly, you search for them on social media platforms. Like what you see or see that they are active on social media? You click follow.
Let’s see which top female stars on GOT has more followers on Instagram as well as what their Instagram page looks like.
Lena Headey (Cersei)
Lena Headey who plays Cersei on GOT has 2.8 million followers—very low compared to her rival characters on GOT. Most likely, fans didn’t like that she looks soft and approachable unlike her character on GOT. Seriously though, if you relish her cold heart and how mean she is to other characters, you might want to hold back on following her till after May 19 when the show rounds up.
Cersei gushes about the two major characters who can’t wait to kill her with their bare hands—feeling is unquestionably mutual. Daenerys she speaks of as “kind and determined and funny and aware” while she hails Arya as “one of her favourite all time humans”—like seriously? GOT is all make-believe of course, but sometimes you get so engrossed with the characters they play that it’s hard to place their characters and their real self in two different boxes. Notice how it feels right to call them by their character names?
Emilia Clarke (Daenerys)
If the presence and number of followers on social media was a measure for claiming the iron throne, Cersei already lost to Daenerys. The mother of dragons packs a massive 22 million followers—making her the GOT star with the highest number of followers on Instagram. And her page is lit—Drogon must have breathed fire on it.
Emilia posts a lot and her behind-the-scenes posts are simply addictive. Fans can’t have enough of her hilarious video clips, especially the recent one where she’s dressed like Jon Snow—with the hair and beards. And Emilia is just as majestic on black or blonde hair as she was on her trademark Targaryen white hair. You need to see the cute dragon tattoo on her hand: she posted a picture to show off the dragon tattoo with a killer caption that goes “this mamma ain’t NEVER forgetting her babies.” Missandei should add queen of Instagram to Daenerys’ many titles.
Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark)
The recently married GOT star, Sophie Turner, is not slacking either on Instagram. Her ever-growing number of followers on Instagram recently hit 12 million. Sophie Turner in modern wears and sultry makeup looks like a Victoria Secret model. She is fond of posting adorable pictures of her and her husband, Joe Jonas. Also, she and her GOT sister turned best friend, Maisie Williams.
Sophie Turner’s behind-the-scenes posts are also lovely; she recently uploaded one of her sleeping on the set of GOT final season with her mouth open. She is very active on Instagram, probably why she keeps getting the ‘follow’ clicks.
Maisie Williams (Arya Stark)
Maisie might have more disciples who’d follow and do her bidding once she shows them the pointy end of her sword in Winterfell but on Instagram, Sophie Turner commands more following. However, her 10.6 million followers is not so far off from Sophie’s 12 million. Just like her GOT Arya character, Maisie wears her hair with a “my-body-my-choice” vibe. When she’s not rocking a pink hair, she is flaunting a purple one.
Unlike her character on GOT though, Maisie is all girly—it’s more of gowns and lady trousers for her. Like Lena Headey, Maisie looks very different from the one-track-minded character she plays on GOT.
Carice Van Houten (Melisandre)
The woman in red probably wants only daring followers (she has 1.2 million followers). Ignore her ‘leavecaricealone’ Instagram handle and click follow only if you are ready to worship the lord of the light. Her faith was not even well received in GOT, only a few desperate people followed her. However, there she is on Instagram posing with Liam Cunningham (Ser Davos), the man who promised her death the next time they crossed path. Carice captioned the picture of her and Liam Cunningham “we made up…NOT”
Although her Instagram page is exciting to scroll through, she definitely knows how to give fans the chills. If you don’t mind a little goosebump once in a while, follow her.
