A few weeks ago, we talked about Nigerian comedians that dabbled into acting. By this, we mean Comedians who have decided to dabble into acting. We mentioned notable comedians like Ayo Makun, Alibaba, Bovi, Frank Donga and Wofaifada.
Today, our focus is on musicians who have joined the ever-bubbling Nollywood, which is big enough for everyone.
Nigerian Lawyer turned musician and actor Folarin Falana known by his stage name Falz is among the entertainers who have decided to explore the large and accommodating entertainment industry. Falz made his Nollywood debut on Funke Akindele’s hit comedy series Jenifa Diaries where he was cast for the character Shege who was romantically attached to Funke Akindele. Falz didn’t stop there. He went on to feature in New Money, Couple of Days, Merrymen: The Real Yoruba Demons and Chief Daddy. He is however known to act comic roles where his accent is his signature. Falz is the only Nigerian musician who has won the prestigious African Magic Viewer’s Choice Award twice.
Remilekun Abdulkhalid Safuru known as Reminisce is a Nigerian singer, rapper and songwriter who performs in English and Yoruba. With regards to acting, Reminisce gained national recognition for his role as Makanaki in Kemi Adetiba’s King of Boys which is the 4th highest grossing movie in the history of the Nigerian cinema. Describing Reminisce character in King of Boys as amazing is an understatement. For a first-time actor, he was excellent; he totally killed it. He was courageous, fearless and a well-respected thug. We hope to see more of him in Nollywood.
Chibuzor Nelson Azubike Is a successful musician whose songs have blessed our airwaves in Nigerian and beyond and has gone on to clinch awards. Phyno has collaborated with top acts in the music industry. He is not stopping at that as the rapper made his acting debut in the highly acclaimed film Lion Heart which was acquired by Netflix. In the movie, Phyno played the role of Onyeka Onyewenu and Pete Edochie’s son.
Olarenwaju Ogunmefun known to the world as Vector Tha Viper Made his acting debut in Chinneylove Eze’s movie June. The movie stars him alongside top Nollywood acts Michelle Dede, Uche Jumbo, and Chinyere Winifred.
Oga Boss as he is popularly called made his acting debut in Kemi Adetiba’s movie King of Boys. Illbliss played the role of a gangster known as Odogwu Malay. He was a total package and to think King of Boys was his acting debut? Fantabulous! Illbliss just like Reminisce nailed his part and are obviously better than a lot of Nollywood actors already gracing our screens with substandard performances.
