How about taking a rain-check from some tears-pumping movies of 2019 like The Avengers: End Game and Game of Thrones? Everyone needs a good laugh from time to time—a brief escape from the barrel of problems life throws at us. And what better way to serve yourself those little joys than to chill out on your couch or hang out at the cinema with a rib-cracking movie?
We are not yet past the middle of 2019 but this year already has a sack full of heartwarming and mood-lightening movies for us. You can’t finish watching any of these 10 comedy movies of 2019 without smiling, chuckling or rolling on the floor with laughter:
Little
Remember witty and arrogant Marsai Martin from Blackish? And awkwardly hilarious Issa Rae from Insecure? They both star in this fantasy comedy movie about a career driven insufferable woman who is a terror to her assistant and other employees. Life changes for her when she magically transforms one day, just before an important presentation, to find herself in her 13-year-old body.
Isn’t it Romantic?
Rebel Wilson in a rom-com? How exciting. She is not your typical romantic heroine and the character (Natalie) she plays in Isn’t it Romantic is very much aware of that fact. Natalie is averse to everything romance but then she wakes up to find herself as the heroine in a rom-com—her biggest nightmare.
What Men Want
Who do we have here? The sassy Cookie from Empire, Taraji P. Henson. In What Men Want, Ali (Taraji Henson) seeks to find a solution to succeeding in a man’s world. After she is denied a well-deserved promotion, Ali visits a psychic and she’s given a potion which imbues her with the ability to hear men’s thoughts.
Have you noticed a pattern yet? Seems all the comedies of this year are gearing towards the fantasy genre. Not bad though, seeing how our life could be like if we had supernatural powers is definitely fun.
Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral
Here’s one that isn’t supernatural. The impossible Madea is all real as ever in A Madea’s Family Funeral but she brings it on as usual like a mythical amazon. It’s shocking, fun and guaranteed to get that laughter out of you.
The Beach Bum
The Beach Bum is that kind of movie that will have you gasping or howling with laughter at the craziness of the characters one minute and get you feeling all sentimental and sad the next minute. And the cast is appealing: there’s Snoop Dogg, Matthew McConaughey, Isla Fisher and Zac Efron.
The Hustle
It’s the entertaining Rebel Wilson again acting alongside the talented Anna Hathaway. These two beguiling fraudsters with different methods of swindling that cash team up to hit an ultimate score that promises billions of dollars in return. You won’t regret picking this movie for your girls’ night out.
Drunk Parents
The title already says it all—just short of titling the movie Hilarious. Alec Balwin and Salma Hayek play parents who are drowning in an ever growing heap of financial woes. After drinking too much at a night out, they come up with a hilarious and elaborate plan to hide their struggles from their daughter and their judgmental social circle.
Long Shot
You can call Long Shot a political rom-com: Charlize Theron starring as Charlotte Field is an accomplished politician who is campaigning for the presidential seat. The not-so-serious plot takes a hilarious dive when she hires a jovial journalist, Fred Flarsky (Seth Rogan) who had a childhood crush on her to be her speechwriter.
Shazam
Shazam is a DC superhero movie without all the serious vibes of most movies in that genre. It’s about a 14 year old kid who transforms into an adult superhero when he screams a magical world. Though he’s got the tight muscles and supernatural abilities, the child in him comes into play more often than not.
Fighting With My Family
Starring Game of Thrones Lena Headey, Florence Pugh, Nick Frost, Jack Lowden and Dwayne Johnson, this heartfelt and funny movie delivers all the hype you read about it. Fighting With My Family is based on the true-life story of Saraya Paige Bevis, a professional wrestler who grew up surrounded by professional wrestlers.
